Ever since the death of his shellan, Tohrment has been unrecognizable from the vampire leader he once was. Physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair, he has been brought back to the Brotherhood by a self-serving fallen angel. Now, fighting once again with ruthless vengeance, he is unprepared to face a new kind of tragedy.
When Tohr begins to see his beloved in his dreams - trapped in a cold, isolated netherworld far from the peace and tranquility of the Fade - he turns to the angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost. But because Lassiter tells him he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed....
Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. Against the backdrop of the raging war with the lessers, and with a new clan of vampires vying for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between the buried past and a very hot, passion-filled future.…But can his heart let go and set all of them free?
My Thoughts
Book # 10 in The BDB series, and anxiously waiting for # 11
I thought about not reviewing this entry, there are so many
excellent reviews out there that I didn’t think I had anything to add, but
after all this is about opinions, I have
to give you mine.
I’m a colossal fan of this series, especially the audio books;
I look forward every year to the time when J.R. Ward and Jim Frangione will
take me away to the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s world, and I will get completely
lost in the drama, passion, tension, sensuality and ultimately romance.
So, did Lover Reborn do it for me? … Absolutely without a
doubt, although the romance and tension didn’t come exactly from whom I expected
from, it never took anything away from my enjoyment; the character’s progress
and growth proved sufficient to engross me from beginning to end.
In a way, I felt Ward was trying to give us a different kind
of Romance, the kind that’s not easy or happy, but tortured, and after having
spent almost 5 years with Tohr, I wouldn’t have believed it otherwise.
Did he get the best Shellan? Probably not, but I thought he got
just what he need it.
Is almost a fact now that the series has taken a new direction,
where the main couple is no longer the center of the story, but just another in
the many plots and updates in the novel, and I can sense some might not be
happy with the change. In my case; I’ll take anything Ward gives me as long as
she continues to capture my heart and attention.
The side stories are amazing and so realistic; I constantly
forget that I’m in a fantasy world and that these guys are just a bunch of
vampires in Caldwell NY.
One more thing I love is the fact that the Lessers aren’t as
important, and we are starting to get a different kind of evil, one that is not
going to be as easy to identify as such, but the gray area between good and evil
is going to come into play and it's going to force you to dig deep and question your
likes and dislikes for these new guys.
In conclusion, the action sequences are some of the best if
not the best in the series, the drama is at its all time high, and last but not
least the writing is phenomenal.
The hints…. Well, more than hints of what's coming for Blay
and Qhuinn are gonna have you wishing 2012 away.
I LOVED IT!
I LOVED IT!

Narration
Jim Frangione
Again, what can I say about Jim Frangione that I have not
said before, here and here. His delivery is superb in every aspect, with the minor complaint
about his female voices, but honestly at this point they don’t even bother me
at all because he is the reason why this book is not only 4 flaming hearts.
Just one thing to the new audio listener, it takes a few chapters
to get used to his voice and delivery, but once you do, you won’t have it any
other way.
I have included a screen shot of audible’s ratings for this book,
so you can get an idea of how highly Jim's performance has been rated.

I agree completely with your review, I also have to think twice to remember they are not real even though I wish they were. ;) Can't wait to read Blay and Qhuinn's book!! OMG!!
ReplyDeleteI know! I really do get lost in the world, I love everything about it; all the drama, the action.. and the hot guys.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed it. I agree, the series has a different feel to it but it's still great. And change can be good. After 10 books I think I would get bored with the series if it didn't change some. Can't wait for Q/B's book.
ReplyDeleteOh my God! I wish I had that book right this minute!, I hope is good. I've never read anything m/m before( not because I'm a prude)no one has ever recommended a good one to me yet. I'm sure it's going to be so good.
DeleteI will say that just like every one else, I love the BDB brothers although I haven't loved every book. Phury's story did nothing for me, and the story between Payne and Manny left me cold (although there was so much V, Butch, and Doc Jane that the book was redeemable to me).
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly my opinion before I started the audiobooks, and it makes me wonder if the audio brings some of the not so great books to a higher level. The last book was a 5 stars book for me also even tho. the romance wasn't that great.
ReplyDeleteI feel so out of the loop...book # 10...everyone says they are sheer awesomeness..i really need to get started with it. Great review..I think this is a series I would enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kimba!! I was on vacation I just came back 2 days ago, that's why I have not stopped and visit you, I need go check what you're up to, and yes this a great series, I really think you would enjoyed it. I understand the reluctance to get into to a series this late, but it's totally worth it.
DeleteI loved this novel! And I felt the same exact way! But unlike you,I couldn't review it,everywhere I turned there were awesome reviews,so I was stuck at a stand-still and decided to like everyone elses review. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThis novel was a nice comeback from the last novel.
Awesomesauce REVIEW!
I know girl! I was thinking the same thing, what can I say that hasn't been said and in proper English to boot!!!..LOL
DeleteIn going into Lover Reborn, I wanted to keep in mind something that JR Ward alluded to in the BDB companion book, that Tohrment's book was to be the conclusion of the original ten- part series, and in a lot of ways, it is
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply, yes! This is exactly my feeling in this book, we are turning the page, but I'm excited to see where she will be taking us next.
DeleteThank you so much for stopping by.
I just posted my own review for Lover Reborn, and I loved it as much as you did! I love Frangione as well!
ReplyDeleteYay! Glad you enjoyed it. Frangione is just awesome with this series.
DeleteI think Jim Frangione has the perfect voice for these characters. Strong and sexy. Love you Jim!
