My Thoughts
I was thrilled when I found that one Ms. Lisa Kleypas’s novels were going to be made into a TV movie - I love, love her! She’s one my very favorite authors; I literally devour everything she publishes, but when the news came that it was going to be Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, I couldn’t help but to feel a bit disappointed. We all have our favorites, and I would have been on cloud nine with any of the novels in the Travis series in its place; nevertheless, I’m very happy for Ms. Kleypas.
This is the first novel and introduction to the Friday Harbor series, and in spite its length (4 h -11m) Ms. Kleypas manages to create a vivid and colorful world with great characters to go with it.
The story it’s warm and sweet, and it’s layered with the author’s uncanny ability to transport you to the setting - for the entire duration of this book I felt as if I were on that beautiful island.
Mark and Maggie are very likable characters; their romance is sweet, emotional, heartfelt, nicely paced, and although predictable, I found their story touching and enjoyable.
The trauma of losing her mother as such young age, makes young Holly run into some emotional problems - and it will be Maggie, who brings the little girl to a happy place again, with a little help from magic. The magic element is well played, and it never feels silly on unreal.
Here, we also get introduced to the Nolan brothers. I’ve already listened to the 2 following books, and I can honestly tell you; they just get better.
So, if you feel like a sweet story with good characters, and sprinkle with a touch of magic with a bit of sexiness, then Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor is your ticket.

I first experienced Tanya Eby with Rainshadow Road (book # 2 in the Friday Harbor series) and I really was impressed then. She does a good with the overall feeling of the books, but what I like the most is her ability to deliver credible male voices, they feel natural and never forced, she uses her tone and modulation, as suppose to extreme changes in her voice, and it definitely works.
I never felt confused or distracted; she does a good job at pulling you into the story by conveying the emotions. She also did great with little Holly, as well as the rest of the characters.
All in all, this was a very good interpretation.
