My Thoughts

I have always wanted to know what the other person was thinking whenever I read a romance that I have particularly enjoyed. When I found out that Walking Disaster was going to be about Travis’ point of view of Beautiful Disaster, I was super excited.

So you would think that getting the same events from the previous book would get somehow tiresome and repetitive, but getting inside the head of our overbearing and explosive little hero was a totally new experience. 

Seeing his disruptive relationship with Abby the way he saw it gives us an entirely new inside, and it shines a new light on their romance, so much so, that there were times I was really mad at Abby contrary to my feelings for her in Beautiful Disaster. 

I enjoyed how Ms. McGuire made Travis convey the enormity, and sometimes painful way in which he loves Abby. I could feel, and I can almost say, understood his possessiveness and neediness - he lost at a very young age “the one person” he loved the most, and he is terrified of losing the only other person he has ever allowed himself to love that much again.

Being inside his head makes you discover a tender and almost innocent little boy, and it gives you a true awareness of his emotional struggles. We incur a different perspective of the way Abby acted, and how sometimes she added fire to an already volatile relationship. 

If you enjoyed Beautiful Disaster you won’t be disappointed with Travis’ take - it will make you have a much deeper appreciation and understanding of  his character, and a different feel for the story.

I do strongly recommend reading/listening to Beautiful Disaster(my review) before you get to this one; I really don’t know what kind of experience it would be if you were to read/listen to Walking disaster first……. But now I’m curious.

I have to be honest and tell you, my internal voice for Travis was far from Dan Bittner’s interpretation, I had this idea that he would sound like a total bad-ass as the typical ‘wise guy”; however, that’s not the case here, he sounds a lot more refined,  and yet it worked, it only took me a chapter to settle for Bittner’s approach, and Oh boy! Did I enjoy his narration.

Dan Bittner’s interpretation truly captures the spirit of the story; his tone conveys Travis’ emotions in a raw and very real manner that immediately connects you to the character, and takes you to the heart of his sentiments.

His female voices were acceptable, of course I would have loved to have Emma Galving doing Abby's parts, but we can’t have it all, can we?  

His pace and timing are excellent, and his male voices were ample and diverse for all the different characters.

Ultimately, this is a very good performance, and a very enjoyable interpretation by Dan Bittner.
