Some people have everything figured out — Andrea Nash is not one of those people. After being kicked out of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea's whole existence is in shambles. All she can do is try to put herself back together, something made easier by working for Cutting Edge, a small investigative firm owned by her best friend, Kate Daniels. When several shapeshifters working for Raphael Medrano — the male alpha of Clan Bouda and Andrea's former lover — die unexpectedly at a dig site, Andrea is assigned to investigate ... and must work with Raphael. As her search for the killer leads her into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta, Andrea knows that dealing with her feelings for Raphael might have to take a backseat to saving the world.
My Thoughts
Another fantastic
addition to the Kate Daniels series.
This book was
exhilarating from beginning to end.
Andrea carried this
book beautifully; I was so excited to get her story, even if that meant another long year
of waiting for a new novel with Kate and
Curran - one of my favorite couples in the paranormal world.
But don’t let the
disappointment of not getting our
beloved team in the driving seat
stop you from enjoying this entry, because Andrea happens to be an
exceptional heroine, not to mention Raphael! He comes a long way from the spoiled playboy
we have come to know.
Again, Ilona Andrews (team)
delivers on every front, the action, the humor, the suspense, and of course, the sexual tension we adore from her novels, is most ever present in this installment.
Andrea’s relationship with her lover deteriorated when she
decided to stay behind and not go with Kate when the pack needed help - and now we find her nursing a broken heart, and in the middle of investigating a flare-up of shifters murders
alongside her ex lover Raphael.
This book has it
all, from the heartbreaking moments when
we get privy to the unfortunate events that have transpired in Andrea's life,
to the discovery of how truly honorable and
caring is Raphael.
The romance was
perfectly paced, and as a result, we got the ideal chemistry between the
protagonists - you are going to love them.
The secondary
characters are remarkable, starting with
the adorable Ascanio; I can’t wait for him to be all grown up and get
his own story. Another Character that has incredible growth in this entry is Roman the Volvh. Both of these characters have piqued my interest, and I'm sure they will yours too.
The unsavory
creatures are as terrifying as ever; the introduction of the Egyptian mythology brings the kind of villains we love to defeat.
The back and forward sarcasm between Andrea and Rafael
give the novel the perfect amount of humor to balance the dark and
dangerous feeling of the novel.
And yea, we do get
a peek at our beloved Kate and Curran alongside other character from previous
books.
Do not miss this
entry! I could use just two words to describe it: Plain Awesome!!
The Author
Illona Andrews
Narration
I love the way
Renee Raudman
delivers the
stories! Once again she nicely carries you to the setting, and enhances your experience by accurately bringing the world and its character to life.
Her timing and pace are excellent.
I loved the distinction between Kate and Andrea. Until now we have been
getting Kate’s point of view, but in this installment is Andrea’s voice who
dictates the story, and Ms. Raudman beautifully manages the transition. Even though, the voice seems very similar, I
could easily distinguish the difference between their personalities.
She’s excellent at connecting you with the mood of these novels; you can
easily feel the danger and the suspense in every action scene.
By delivering the dialogue with the ideal level of sarcasm, she makes
you feel as if you were right in the middle of one of Andreas and Rafael’s witty verbal battles.
All in all, Renee Raudman does justice to the brilliant writing style of
Ilona Andrews.
Plain awesome it the perfect way to describe this book. LOVED it! Great review! :)
